leaving blues

not a day too soon

if only i had countless hours in the day. if day was never divided by twenty-four and night divided by winks of sleep and my restless movements, well, then, i'd have enough time to be.

there's is just simply not enough of it these days. not enough to catch up with a friend you've been meaning to meet for ages, no matter how meaningless the conversation or how bland the coffee-and-cream. not enough to burnt your toast, not enough to sleep later than noon. there's no time to fix one's nails, or walk down the street at a leisurely pace without looking behind yout shoulder or glancing at the time. no time to be leisurely at all, without the thought of being late entering your mind.

there's no time to be early, but always enough to be late.

however, take comfort in this:

there's a time for everything, though.

a time to be and a time to not.

a time to laugh, to cry (a lot).

even a time to love.

and may it be perpetual.

as if?

if only these kinds of unions had some, if any, solidarity. it's a shame about the state of our heavily-biased body politic.

the burning of the closet

so i'll give you my opinion. i don't normally do this. but i think i'll oblige, just for today. so consider yourself a lucky bastard.

considering 'pink week 2010' - i kept my mouth shut terribly tight. i always do when it comes to these often militant initiatives organised (in seemingly good will) by students. kudos. you're really making yourselves feel noble by forcing your greenpeace manifesto/gay rights mumb-jumbo/ironic racial stigmatization campaigns onto the average Joe Bloggs who simply wishes to put his (or her) head down, get the grindstone going long enough to eventually get home, where he(or she) may relax, eat high carb foodstuffs and watch American television on youtube in an attempt to escape such nonsense as what is projectiled all over the campus of South Africa's 'most liberal University.'

if you're going to perpetuate LGBTI stereotypes all over campus (even if your intention was to debunk these), then expect that some people will not be too happy with such a display. some people are uncomfortable with homosexual pride, especially when it is 'exoticised' and thrown about in people's faces. there's a fine line between expressing dignity and downright exhibitionism. i think many people out there are a little too cheeky for their own right, and should be humbled. however, setting the campaign on fire never solved much, either.

my advice:

smelling salts and a weekend job.

lion's den

i have a sudden urge to renovate something. i want somebody to put me in the middle of a bare room, with peeling wallpaper and uprooted carpets and spiderwebs, and tell me to revamp it into something new. i'd like to take something derelict and in a state of decay and revive it, to make it homely and pretty, with good ceilings and ambient lighting. there's something very personal and satisfying about transforming a space from a state of lessness to a work of wonder. in the many hours one spends stripping, painting, sanding, varnishing and pasting, watching such a space become something from nothing is, for all its toil and handiwork, nothing short of a success.

i imagine it to be a quiet place for reading, where books are stacked on mighty shelves, from the classics to the post-modern; and the hardwood floors absorb the heat of the hearth, low ceilings press upon our gatherings, which are held together by a trophy cabinet, a tapestry and a pinball machine.

all this room needs is a little tenderness, a couple of pictures on the walls, some furniture haggled for at a car boot sale, some huge cushions and a fireplace - and hey presto.
