straying from the brightside

my brain has gone into dormant mode for the past six weeks. i think it's time i started reading great works of literature and making intellectual footnotes. i am forgetting how to write. i don't think i've picked up a pen in what seems like forever and i tend to sleep later and later, even though the sun is shining outside and it's the middle of winter. with less than a week until university starts again i think i should start 'weaning' myself off the comfortable habit of the holidays.

i think i need to sharpen all my pencils because they're looking kinda blunt.

L.H.O.O.Q & company

for my nineteenth birthday at mr. pickwick's we put a moustache on mona in true DADA fashion, kinda like this one here.

except this one is by Dali and sports a much more 'signature' tache, a reinvention of marcel duchamp's parody, L.H.O.O.Q. here, dali is representing himself as an artist maintaining his own subjectivity, as both the creator and self-created.

duchamp's ready-made aided 'objet trouve' pokes fun at the sexual ambiguity of the mona lisa as well as makes a snide reference to leonardo's own homosexuality.

wake me with these if you please

lemon cornmeal waffles

1 1/4 cs +2 T flour
2 t baking powder
1 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
3/4 c cornmeal
1/4 c canola oil
2 c almond milk
1/4 c soy yogurt
zest and juice from 2 lemons
2 T agave syrup

In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt and cornmeal together. In another bowl, mix together the oil, almond milk, yogurt, lemon juice & zest and the agave syrup. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and gently fold together until just mixed. Use a small ladle to pour batter onto your prepped waffle maker and proceed in your usual waffle-making style. Serve with maple syrup and fresh fruit.
