the best part of the holiday in plett was our canoeing adventure on the lagoon. we pretended we were roguish pirates asail on the briny seas, scouting for hidden treasure.

at sunset the minnows began to frolick in the shallows and the glassy water was a perfect inversion of a spectacular sunset.

i could have grown a mermaid's tail and dove into the waves. swam out for miles until the deep was the deepest. and i'd have grown gills in the sides of my neck and breathed like a fish. then i would have been truly free.
